1800 miles, nine days, one tropical storm (Colin), one race gate win (2 points), and one second place, and we’re here in NYC.
Or nearly: the marina is actually across the river in New Jersey (a mild bone of contention for some crew members); but it made for some great pictures as we came in.
The race itself went well, though we were disappointed to get pipped to the post by Telemed. The heat of the Caribbean persisted right through the tropical storm, and after the trials of leg 6 it was almost pleasant to be dealing with 70 knot winds while wearing board shorts and sandals. We’ve decided that from now on we’d like all our storms to be at around 26*C.
Having joined halfway through this leg it was great to see how my watch had developed in my absence: several members had had to step up to helm in tough conditions, and the evolutions pretty much run themselves. It’s just possible they could manage without me…
We did no damage to Garmin at all this leg, so maintenance was over in a single day, which means there’s plenty of time now to see the sights in NYC; but first a big thank you to those of you who have donated to my JustGiving page. It’s much appreciated.
